Houses
As mentioned in the rules, your character must fit into their house. No dumb Ravenclaws, for example. This, however, does not mean, for example, that all Gryffindors are good and Slytherins evil. Be creative; have your Slytherin be ambitious or your Gryffindor arrogant. We will tell you if your personality needs tweaking, or if you may be moved to another house if not willing to change.
Ages
Please research and check that the age of your character fits their year. It can be a bit confusing to check birthdates to years, but to give you an idea the year this roleplay is set in is the current year. If you have any questions regarding ages, feel free to ask.
Keep in mind that the years typically go as so:
Year 1 11-12
Year 2 12-13
Year 3 13-14
Year 4 14-15
Year 5 15-16
Year 6 16-17
Year 7 17-18
Appearances
Realistic. No cat ears or tails*, no wings. No wild-colored hair; it can be dyed, but there is a dress code at Hogwarts and it will be enforced.
*Unless your character is an animagus gone wrong. Though, we don't need a bunch of these flitting about
Personalities
At this forum, we welcome and encourage unique personalities, from friendly to quirky to mean. This means that we discourage...
~ Godly characters - because they're no fun. Who wants to roleplay with a character who is the 'most beautiful' or 'most powerful'? Your character, as mentioned in the rules, can think that way, but they must also show insecurities or quirks. In a nutshell, just make them realistic.
~ Stereotypes - are welcome to a limit. We do not want too many 'emo' characters, or other common stereotypes. If a character is a certain way, in your bio you must explain why they act the way they do. If depressed, for example, maybe it is because they had a recent heartbreak or lost a dear friend? Maybe doesn't get enough attention at home? There are so many possibilities; use them!
~Tragic Characters - Having 7 out 10 characters with dead parents is a bit ridiculous, don't you think?
Animagi, Werewolves, Vampires, and Metamorphmagi
Will be limited in number, period.
Many a time have I seen roleplays clogged with so many animagi that they lose their 'specialness'. They, in the magical world, are rare and can only be produced by extremely talented and skilled wizards and witches. We will keep lists of each, limiting the number and determining if your character is of a high enough level to perform such a feat.
Werewolves, on the other hand, are also very rare and produced when one bites a human being. The condition is painful and has an overall detrimental effect on the victim's life. They will too be limited in number and a list kept.
Vampires are similar to weres that on must be bitten by another to become one and they will be limited. We don't want too many bloodsuckers out and about Hogwarts. As well, this is a Harry Potter roleplay, not Twilight. If you are here for that, you've come to the wrong place.
Metamorphmagi are also extremely rare, with the ability to change their appearence at will. Most frequently their are born, and the skill cannot be taught. They, as animagi and werewolves are, will be listed and monitored.
If you so desire to have one of these, simply ask a mod. While we don't want a ton of these flitting around either, we don't want to only allow a painfully small amount. The idea here is to be creative and have fun, not restrict every last thing.
Blood
There are very few pureblood families in the wizarding world, and such they are infrequent in number, and often resort to inbreeding to keep the line pure. We have a board up to list the pureblood families, and the number of them will be monitored. The most common type is a half-blood, and should be the largest in number. Muggleborns are also uncommon and numbers be monitored.
Plots
As such, we don't want to see too many 'pregnant' students, since Hogwarts is not a daycare but a school, too many hardcore drug users, or other extreme characteristics. If they are that way, you must explain in their profile why.
Overall
Explain your characters. We want to know their entire story, and the more your provide us, the better we will understand them and the better people will be able to roleplay with you. It makes it so much easier if you just tell us why.
We are looking forward to see what you all come up with!Good luck!
