History: Born in the municipality of Fjallabyggð in the north of Iceland, Kjartan and Nora were the twin children of Hjalmar Aðalbjarnarson and Eiri Arnmundsdóttir (married). Hjalmar is a skilled wizard of repute, known best for his intervention in a Muggle/Wizard conflict that nearly resulted in war. The man had allowed some Muggle families to live in the mainly-wizarding village because the seas offshore proved to be better fishing grounds than in the surrounding areas of Iceland. The mayor of the village, Dagbjartur Bjarnhéðinsson, was displeased with Hjalmar's friendliness towards the nonmagical folk, and out of spite decided to solve the problem of the muggles himself...
On his way home one day from the shore when his twins were nine years old, Hjalmar was confronted by Dagbjartur. The two exchanged words, but the situation escalated where the father of two had no choice but to bring out his wand. Dagbjartur, however, was a quicker spellcaster and shot a curse out that hit the man. His animagi form, a polar bear (which he used to help with hunting) was revealed, but when Hjalmar attempted to change back into his human form, he was unable to do so. He raced back to the village, but before he could return home to welcoming arms, the mayor had apparated back and warned the rest of the community about a rouge bear lurking about in the area. The villagers attempted to drive him out, but his wife recognized the bear as her husband from a distinctive scar he had over his nose which was on the muzzle of the beast. Despite her efforts to defend her husband, the bear was hit by so many spells to drive him away that he became mad. He dashed out into the tundra, leaving Eiri heartbroken.
For a month she raised her children alone, and the bear returned. She went outside her home to greet him, but something was not quite right with him. He had a glazed look in his eyes, drooling... it was when he attempted to lunge and snap up his two children who stood beside their mother, however, that she realized that her husband was no longer much human but instead mad and animalistic. She drove him away from their children with her skilled charm-work, all the while also throwing healing charms at him in the hopes that he would snap out of whatever spell he was put under. Once every two weeks this would occur, her having to drive her ever-fervent husband from eating their children.
Finally, after six months it was confessed to her (after many cups of mulled wine) by the mayor that it was him who had cursed her husband. She immediately held her wand to the man's throat and forced him to, that next night when her husband was scheduled to return as a bear, to change him back. Eiri was known as quite the skilled spellcaster, so the mayor had no choice but to obey her wishes lest he lose an eye or his own life.
Ever since, Kjartan and Nora have been wary, albeit respectful, of their father. Hjalmar has too since remained at Eiri's side at nearly all times except while working, and Eiri had been elected as the mayor of the village since the last election.
Kjartan was given the middle name 'Olafur', meaning heir, by his father. The boy inherited his great-grandmother's wand and set of reindeer antlers from an enchanted beast killed by his great-great-grandfather, as per tradition in his family.
